Berlin-based graphic artist known for bold conceptual work and a socially-driven approach, bridging design, culture and contemporary art.
Eike König is going through somewhat of a transition at the moment. He finds himself looking for the next step in his artistic practice – or perhaps for a new muse. He’s not forcing anything, though. “It will come”, he says, with the confidence of a man who has been able to find inspiration for decades. Emerging from the techno scene of the 1990s, Eike’s signature style is frequently based on bold typography and social observation, challenging modern branding, consumer culture, and global politics. Bold, sometimes controversial, and always impactful.
Eike can get inspired by just about anything – nature bursting to life in spring, for instance. But his biggest inspiration comes from other people. “I have always been interested in them”, he says, “in meeting new people and listening to their stories. And receiving those stories openly, without trying to judge them beforehand. Or at all.” He is fascinated by the potential of people expressing themselves creatively. “I think that if we take a step back from our own lives and look at what others are doing with more empathy, society can get its shit together.”
