Sight is the most beautiful gift we are given, asserts Bianca Saunders. You can hear the awe in her voice when she talks about it. “We get to see the most vivid colours. It’s amazing to me how the human eye develops over time. I love seeing how my niece and nephew, who were recently born, are only just discovering colour and shapes.” In her designs, Bianca combines traditionally masculine and feminine styles while drawing inspiration from identity and craftsmanship.
Her curiosity about other people and how they move in clothes – whether it’s a subtle twist of the hip or how someone tucks in their shirt – fuels her work. It’s all about letting the wearer style things the way they want. In creating, Bianca looks past stereotypes and past gender. The biggest inspiration for this comes from her friends. “I have a lot of amazing friends who influence me in terms of how they think or what they’re interested in. I find people fascinating. And I'm a great listener, so that helps soaking in their experiences.
