Four tips for buying
new glasses

The only guide you’ll ever need
So you want to buy glasses – good idea. Pretty soon you’ll be seeing great and looking even better. We know that choosing your frames can feel like a big deal but, don’t worry, we’ve got you covered. Read on for our four surefire tips on how to find your new favourite pair of frames.
First things first

Get your eyes checked

Glasses are a great way to switch up your look, express your personality and feel more confident. But what’s even better (crucial perhaps) is that they help you see. Wearing the right prescription can greatly improve your overall health and quality of life.

We recommend getting your eyes tested at least every two years. You can easily book an appointment online, at your nearest Ace & Tate store. Our qualified optician will ask you a few screening questions before proceeding with the test. If your vision turns out to be perfect (you lucky thing, you) and you find out that you don’t need prescription glasses, you will still be able to add a Blue Light filter to your lenses.

Cue the try-on montage

Which shape of glasses should you choose?

Although it’s entirely up to you which style you go for, it’s worth considering the different options. Square glasses and rectangular glasses are your everyday go-to classics. You’ve got all-time legends like Alfred and Bobby, or slightly funkier styles like Celeste or Lemar. They’re perfect for people looking for an effortlessly stylish staple with a bit of an edge.

Then you’ve got the round glasses, enter Pierce or Yumi. You just can’t go wrong with their smooth silhouettes. Frames like Neil even come in a metal frame for the ultimate delicate finish. They look good on everyone, so get ready for compliments.

Depending on your preference, you might want to go for a more classically feminine frame. Popular glasses for women include Lily, Rosa or Morris. Glasses for men, on the other hand, include Willem, Billie or Chris, with thicker frames and more defined edges.

For the final touch

Upgrade your lenses

Once you’ve chosen your new favourite glasses, you might want to upgrade your lenses for a more tailored experience. To find the right ones, just ask yourself: what do my eyes need?

During your eye test, the optician has probably shared their recommendation as to what your eyes might benefit from most. If you’re a frequent screen user (and, let’s face it, who isn’t?), you could definitely use a Blue Light Filter to protect your eyes from excessive strain. If you find yourself switching between near-sighted and far-sighted glasses, it might be a good idea to invest in Multifocal lenses. Finally, for the ultimate experience of comfort, why not upgrade to our Premium or Supreme lenses? They are lightweight, anti-scratch, anti-dirt and they defog faster. Basically a spa for your eyes.

Remember, it’s fun to build your glasses collection. And it’s really good for your health to give your eyes the support they need. Luckily, we also make the experience super easy and enjoyable. So scroll back up and start exploring our wide selection. We bet there is a perfect frame just waiting for you to wear it.
