Back to Journal

If you’re feeling overwhelmed by all that’s happening in the world and need to take a breather, we highly suggest you listen to this calming mixtape by our guest, Relmer International.

Known for blending house, balearic and italo, the Amsterdam-based DJ and producer released a self-titled record last year on label Magnetron – described as “warm, lush and deeply layered” – and has been working closely with Antal at the acclaimed label Rush Hour.

Ready to zone out? Good. Hit play and recharge your body and soul.

Hello there. Can you tell us a little bit about yourself?

Hello to you as well! Thank you for asking me to take part. My name is Jelmer, I am a music producer with a small recording studio in the Red Light District. I also work for the record label Rush Hour and I am a passionate music enthusiast who plays at parties from time to time.

How would you describe the mixtape you have created for us?

It's a very downtempo and chilled blend created to take a step back. A real 'beach' mix is how you can call it. Perfect for the non-party times we are in right now.

What’s the ideal situation to listen to this mixtape?

Ideally while watching the sunset at the beach, or at golden hour anywhere in the city. But it could also work in your living room while zoning out.

How do you discover music, old and new?

I feel really lucky to have a good network of people who send recommendations for me to check out. Also, record stores, Discogs, Bandcamp, Youtube and Spotify.

How have you been staying balanced in these confusing, pandemic times?

Hydrate, read, think, repeat. On a daily basis. Oh and I took a step back and spent a lot of time with my family and my best and close friends in the countryside. Man, that did me so well.

Do you think the way we experience music and other cultural events will change post pandemic?

Hopefully we will be more aware of how valuable our time together is and everything will come more naturally.

Where’s your favourite place to hang out in Amsterdam in the summer?

Nowhere. I try to avoid the city as much as possible in the summer. Beaches are less than 30 minutes away, I like to sail and be out in nature. But to answer the question, I really like to BBQ at Kattenburgerplein with my homies and have a swim at Homeland. And, of course, (cliché alert) the studio.

What are you most looking forward to right now?

Moving up, releasing more music, continuing to love and appreciate the people around me. And Festivals! Maaaaannnnnn! I can't wait to experience a proper festival season.
